We all we got

We All We Got! So true. 2024, whew. Grief and joy, chaos and care. The photos below capture some of what sustained me this year…Mi vida Jason Krekel and our dynamic dog Hattie Mae. Collaborations with Colaborativa La Milpa, STM Multimedia (Black Montford & Stumptown), and Tepeyac Mountain Sanctuary. Friends and family. (We miss you, Odell.) Wild places. Playing music (Krekel and Whoa!). Flowers. And a multitude of magic and many loved ones not pictured here. I could never document it all (nor would I want to). Looking back over 2024 reminds me again of the abundance in my life.

This fall we experienced a harrowing, dramatic geologic event through Hurricane Helene, a disaster that will forever shape us and this place we love. The world holds too many unnecessary losses. There are terrifying people in positions of power. The coming days will hold many challenges. It will also hold beautiful opportunities to care for each other and this gorgeous earth. I am ready for what’s next on the journey to collective healing and liberation.

The Art of Recovery

I’m looking forward to “THE ART OF RECOVERY, Hammers and Bags: Rising through the Layers of Tragedy Over Old Wounds” at Pink Dog Creative, opening this Saturday with events all month and closing with a panel discussion on January 4th (which I’ll be a part of). This show platforms perspectives from Asheville’s Black community, offering a space to meditate on what a just and resilient recovery from Helene could look like.

In addition to those listed above, going into the new year I am glad to be collaborating with Semilla de Vida Huertos, Swannanoa Communities Together, and more to be revealed.

There are an abundance of inspiring initiatives in our community right now. I trust you’ve found a place to share your gifts, if not I’m always happy to chat about pathways into action.
