Write-a-Thon to Support Other Writers

Please Sponsor Me! I am participating in the 5th annual Mountain of Words Write-A-thon to support the work of Asheville Writers in the Schools & Community. My personal goal is to raise $250 and I am hoping that you will help achieve this by sponsoring me as I write as much as I can for AWITSC between now and November 17.

Ready to write for Asheville Writers in the Schools & Community

Here’s why:

This non-profit organization changes lives through innovative writing and art programs for children, youth and families who are too often overlooked and unheard. They are invited to share their voices and power to help create a more just and equitable world.

And they make sure that everyone can express themselves in the language they are most comfortable with– Spanish or English or with the phrases and vernacular which connect them to their culture and identity.

Funds raised will support the Family Voices program at Hall Fletcher Elementary and Word on the Street/La Voz de los Jovenes, an online arts and culture magazine program which centers the creativity and leadership of teens of African and Latinx descent.

Just click the link below and sponsor me for the generous amount you feel comfortable in giving—all donations are tax-deductible.

CoThinkk Awards Night

In case you missed it, the CoThinkk Awards night celebrated community leaders and gave grants to community projects led by people of color. It was an amazing, soul-filling evening! Seriously, every second was precious, from the introductory poem by Word on the Street to the dance party that concluded the night. I was particularly moved by the Kelly Goins Legacy Award, as Kelly was a dear friend and community advocate who we lost earlier this year. Click here to read Aisha Adams’ piece about the event on the Mountain Xpress website, and here to learn more about CoThinkk.
