I first heard the phrase “time, talent, and treasure” from Tracey Greene-Washington, founder of the CoThinkk giving circle. It describes what we all have to contribute to things we believe in. In my life, I have mostly been able to contribute my time and talent, though I know that is not always an option for folks. Luckily, with online giving, it only takes a few simple steps to contribute our treasure to worthwhile efforts. Today I am sharing a few grassroots fundraisers that have come across my radar in the past week. Click away! And share with your networks!
Positive Changes College Exploration Trip
“The goal of The College Exploration Trip is to motivate youth from low-wealth communities to pursue their goals and dreams of higher education…The College Exploration Trip will take youth and their parents from low-wealth communities on a 6 day 5 night college road trip all the way up to NYC, where we will visit the northeastern colleges and universities.” Click the link to read more about the plans for this trip and the impressive successes that came from last year’s trip!
S.T.AR.S. Goes to Atlanta
“We are the 2017 participants of the S.T.A.R.S. program at the Christine Avery Learning Center, Inc. The Christine Avery Learning Center is an educational nonprofit that equips, enriches, and empowers youth from 18 months to 16 years old from disadvantaged backgrounds living in Asheville, NC. The S.T.A.R.S. program (Setting Teens Around Roads to Success) is for middle school and high school students. Each summer, we take an enrichment trip that provides academic, social, and cultural development. For 2017, we are traveling to Atlanta, GA. While in Atlanta, we will tour the Coca-Cola Factory, visit the Apex Museum for Black History and Culture, visit the King Center, and go to Six Flags.”
Help Morales Family Bring Their Father Home
“Luis Alberto, a WNC father of three, was recently stopped at a license checkpoint where he was arrested and is now being held in Henderson County Jail with an ICE hold. Luis Alberto is a 37 year old father who has lived in this country for more than 18 years, building a family with his wife and kids. Luis Alberto is the sole provider for his family of five who are already facing hardships in the short time he has been detained…CIMA has found an immigration attorney who believes there is good reason to fight Luis Alberto’s deportation case because 1) he has not committed any crimes that would disqualify his immigration application; 2) he has been living in the United States for over 10 years; and 3) extreme hardship would be created for his U.S. citizen family members.”
Sponsor a Child for Photo Camp
“Children are our future, and the skills learned and relationships fostered at so many camps throughout the country are often life-changing stepping stones on the road to adulthood. Children come to camp from all walks of life, eager to learn, yearning to make new friends, ready to take on new challenges and discover gifts they didn’t know they had. I hope to help grow some of these beautiful minds at our photography camp this year! Last year was such a success we had to do it again!” – Micah Mackenzie
There is important heart-filled work happening.
There is abundance we can share.
Peace.
