Let’s celebrate the power of words! I am proud to be a part of the 2017 Mountain of Words Write-A-Thon fundraiser for Asheville Writers in the Schools & Community (AWITSC). One of AWITSC’s main projects is Word on the Street, a transformative youth-run bilingual online magazine which I have highlighted numerous times. This is such an important organization to support. Help them reach their $10,000 goal!

It was a big election night last night! So excited for Sheneika Smith‘s City Council win, and proud of Kim Roney for running an inspiring campaign that helped move the needle. More on Asheville city politics soon, I’m sure.

Delta House Motown Gala and Silent Auction

A good time for a good cause! This event will feature silent auction, dancing, food, beer and wine. The proceeds will benefit Delta House public service and after school programs. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased online here (go to the bottom page of “About Us,” click on the the “Buy Now” to make your purchase).

Poetry by Nicole Townsend, music by Lyric, with emcee Sheneika Smith. “The show will unapologetically dig deep into the realities of navigating through a white supremacist society while existing in a black body.
